GLW Engineering Design (GLW Engineering Design) Limited were responsible for providing the design, fabrication and installation drawings to our façade contractor on our project at 11-12 Floral Street, Covent Garden in 2017. The focus was on the main elevation of terracotta faience panels and a bespoke design planter area running across the full width of the building along Floral Street. The terracotta faience panels are supported by the Halfen SUK system which in turn is supported by secondary steelwork fixed back to the primary steelwork frame. The Halfen SUK system setting out configuration was designed by GLW Engineering Design in conjunction with Halfen and the secondary supporting steelwork was designed by them. This was a complex retail and commercial refurbishment. Our interface with GLW Engineering Design was ensuring that their design met the objectives of the client and design team whilst also being practical and buildable. In this respect, they did an excellent job and we are extremely pleased with their work. The finished product is first class and this is a reflection of the quality of design and detailing by GLW Engineering Design. The key aspects that we are looking for are efficiency, a diligent and timely approach, accuracy, collaboration, clarity of information and attention to detail – and they certainly scored highly in all of these areas. GLW Engineering Design produced general arrangement drawings (Elevations, vertical and horizontal Sections, fixing details, including the incorporation of site survey information) for architectural approval and fabrication drawings for all the secondary steelwork, the bespoke brass perimeter presswork, internal planter panels and the planter area support steelwork. They also provided setting out/installation drawings for the faience panels, Halfen SUK support system, secondary steelwork, curtain wall, the bespoke brass perimeter presswork and planter area support steelwork. We are looking forward to working with GLW Engineering Design Limited and their team again.

GLW Engineering Design have worked for and with for over 10 years, during which time they have carried the design of curtain wall projects staring in 2007 with Fidelity House and recently completing 11-12 Floral St in Covent Garden. Both these contracts whilst separated by over a decade represented bespoke design solutions and pushed the envelope in what could be considered to be normal curtain walling design. On Fidelity GK took on the design and design coordination of note only the standard curtain walling but the structural “bow” trusses and the 3D design of the curved faceted radiuses and sloping eyebrow flashings above the main entrance- cutting edge at the time. In the intervening years they have worked on various projects – Athena Tower Stratford (£1.8 Million) Carriage Hall Covent Garden (£300K) and Exchange Tower (£200K). On Floral St Covent Garden GK designed a bespoke structure including secondary steel which supported a Ceramic tilled façade (Faience) supported from a stainless steel Halfen Grid as well as designed the bespoke brass pressing to the surround of shopronts. As a result this contract has quickly become a by word for sympathetic yet original design in blends in with the surrounding area but also stands out. I have always found GLW Engineering Design to be conscientious, honest and hardworking with an eye for detail and a logical methodology which is of great benefit to my-self the Architect and the main contractor. They are also at all times polite and a pleasure to work with promoting a team spirit ensuring that problem solving is a pleasure rather than a chore. During an extremely hectic period in the design office, we needed additional experienced cladding design recourse to backup our in house team.  GLW Engineering Design provided this service. The Old Church Street project in Chelsea involved multiple configurations of decorative anodised cladding panels, complete with matching windows and doors and stainless steel balustrades. Over a period of six months, the project moved from concept design to prototype and final production drawings, with every panel, cover strip, window frame and joint detail given the same high level of care and attention by GLW Engineering Design, a very reliable and knowledgeable team we can rely on to meet the needs of our business.
